Isola Studio is a multidisciplinary architecture practice based in Athens and Corfu, working across architecture, research, and cultural production.
Founded by Chaido Kaproulia and Eva Lavranou, the studio operates through a hybrid practice that combines architectural design, research, and cultural engagement. We approach architecture not simply as the production of buildings, but as a field deeply connected to environmental, social, political, and cultural realities.
OUR ECOSYSTEM
At Isola Studio, we see design as both a practical tool and a cultural act: a process of observation, collaboration, and transformation that shapes not only spaces, but also the ways architecture is understood and discussed today.
1Architecture
Our architectural work focuses on designing spaces that are precise, adaptable, and deeply connected to their context. Working across scales and typologies, we approach each project through careful attention to spatial experience, materiality, and the ways people inhabit space. From new constructions to transformations of existing environments, we see architecture as a process of balancing function, atmosphere, and everyday life to create spaces that are both meaningful and enduring.
2Research
Research forms a central part of our practice. Through collaborations with institutions, scientists, designers, and international partners, we investigate new approaches to climate-responsive architecture and the future of inhabitation in the Mediterranean and beyond. We are particularly interested in the intersection of ecology, resilience, and spatial practice, and in translating research into practical and accessible architectural strategies.
3Culture
LAVA functions as the cultural platform of the studio — creating space for experimentation, exchange, and critical dialogue through exhibitions, lectures, publications, and interdisciplinary collaborations. Through LAVA, we engage architecture as a cultural practice capable of shaping public conversation and expanding the boundaries of the discipline.
PEOPLE

Chaido Kaproulia
Chaido Kaproulia is an architect and territorial designer. She holds a Master’s degree from the joint program in Urban and Territory Design from ETH Zurich and EPF Lausanne and a Master’s degree in Research in Architecture from the National Technical University of Athens.
She has previously studied architecture at the University of Thessaly. Prior to her own practice, she has worked as an architect in Vienna and Athens for several years, participating in a wide range of programs from housing and hospitality to public spaces and winning competition proposals. Her work aims to evolve architectural practices beyond the boundaries of the built, by understanding its relationship with landscape, ecology and agriculture.
She has presented her research work in various scientific conferences.
She is currently working as a researcher with the National Technical University of Athens on two European research programs.

Eva Lavranou
Eva Lavranou is an architect, researcher, and curator working across architecture and cultural production. She holds a Master in Design Studies from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where she graduated with Distinction in 2022, following architecture studies at the University of Thessaly and the Politecnico di Milano.
At Harvard, she worked as a teaching assistant for interdisciplinary design courses, curatorial assistant for the Department of Exhibitions, and curator at the GSD Kirkland Gallery. Her work has been presented at the Venice Biennale, while her professional experience includes architectural projects, research initiatives, and award-winning competitions in Greece and internationally.
Previously, Eva worked with the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York through the Ambasz Institute, contributing to exhibitions, publications, public programs, and research focused on the history of ecological design.
Alongside her architecture and design work at Isola Studio, she develops curatorial and research-based projects through exhibitions, interviews, and public events exploring architecture, ecology, and contemporary spatial practice. She is currently working as a researcher with the National Technical University of Athens on two European research programs.
