TITLE OF RESEARCH ARTICLE
ABSTRACT OR TITLE
As part of the European project MATCH – Mediterranean as the Climate Hotspot, ISOLA Studio collaborates with the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), which leads the research activities of the project. MATCH explores how arts and community-based practices can foster climate resilience, strengthen social engagement, and support more sustainable ways of living across the Mediterranean.
Within the project, ISOLA contributes to the research and development of CRIA (Cultural Climate Response Impact Assessment Tool), an innovative framework designed to help cultural organizations understand, assess, and improve their environmental and social impact. Conceived as a flexible learning and reflection tool, CRIA combines quantitative environmental indicators with qualitative dimensions such as governance, participation, care, artistic practice, and long-term community impact.

The methodology behind CRIA has been developed through an extensive research process, including literature review, analysis of existing European frameworks, stakeholder surveys and interviews, and a series of participatory co-design workshops held during MATCH capacity-building events in Athens, Barcelona, Marseille, and Nicosia. Bringing together artists, cultural practitioners, researchers, and partner organizations, these workshops have directly informed the structure and content of the tool.
The project is currently in its pilot phase, during which cultural organizations are testing CRIA in real-world conditions. The feedback gathered will inform the final version of the tool, supporting cultural institutions in embedding sustainability into their everyday practice while strengthening their capacity for reflection, strategic planning, and climate action
